All of our sales contest templates come preloaded with suggested contest metrics, easy setup instructions, contest rules, and even some fun prize and incentive ideas!

There are templates that motivate more than the top finisher in a raffle style format to lift overall performance of more of your team and engage reps even when they know they may not come in first.

The templates can be downloaded into Excel, Numbers, or Google sheets so they can work wherever you do! Some of the contest templates have formulas to help you calculate points, some of the templates are seasonal themed, and *all* of them are ideas we have tried with our own teams or that our customers have used successfully.

Gamification has been shown by a number of independent publications to be effective in the workplace, particularly in sales. While Ambition automates the contests and calculates all of the metrics dynamically through integrations, these templates are a good starting point for those curious to get the concept.

Frequently Asked Questions about
Sales Contest Templates

Once you use a sales contest template to prepare your sales contest, you’ll be ready to announce your contest to the team. Announcing a sales contest could be as simple as blasting the contest announcement over your internal messaging service, such as Slack or Teams. If your team prefers email, maybe send out a quick email memo with a fun little GIF to kick things off! Regardless of your chosen announcement medium, consider sharing it broadly beyond the sales team to get your whole organization involved and cheering on competitors. This ups the stakes and increases overall engagement and motivation.

When you announce your contest, you should include the date the contest starts and ends, the competition rules, the prizes, and who is eligible to compete, if applicable. Here’s a quick example of a communication you might send out to announce a contest:

Subject:January Master of Meetings Contest! 💥🏆
Body:We’re kicking off this month with a Master of Meetings Contest! The goal of this contest is to book as many meetings as possible. Could you be the #1 Master of Meetings? Get ready for this competition to find out.
Contest Starts: January 10th
Contest Ends: January 30th
How to win: Get the most meetings booked by January 30th! The contest will be tracked in Ambition, as always. So we’ll be able to see how everyone is measuring up.
Contest Prize: The winning rep will get 3 extra days of PTO to use at their convenience.

Don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions, comments, or concerns you might have.
Good luck—and may the best Master of Meetings win!

Thank you,
Sales Manager

Knowing the right sales contest cadence to consistently motivate your team is important. You want to keep the competitions fun and encourage engagement without them feeling overdone or stale. Different teams often find different contest cadences helpful—it often depends on your criteria for competition, who is involved, and overall participation.

Some teams run smaller weekly, head-to-head contests, where they pair up reps over the course of the month and Ambition anthems for celebration, accolades for recognition, and bragging rights are among the coveted prizes. While other teams find it more beneficial to run monthly team-wide contests based on metric goals, to help boost motivation toward meeting key targets, using leaderboards and Slack triggers to see and share who’s in the lead and who’s lagging. Some teams even have several contests operating at the same time: weekly matchup contests are a great example of this, where there’s often pairs of reps competing toward various targets at the same time.

Depending on your goals, you may find it beneficial to consistently keep several contests in swing, with smaller celebratory prices—anthems, triggers, accolades—as the weekly competition winnings and larger, tangible rewards—extra PTO, bonuses, special lunches—as monthly or quarterly prizes for larger initiatives or contests that spring out of your weekly matchups. There are so many ways to run contests and so many cadences that work from team-to-team that it’s hard to recommend a regimented cadence, but whatever consistency you choose, a free Ambition sales contest template can help you get started.
