What's the Best Way to Build Scorecards for Ramping SDRs?

Bringing new SDRs onto the team presents a common challenge for RevOps leaders: you want new hires contributing to team goals and participating in competitions from day one, but you also don't want to hold them to the same expectations as fully ramped reps.
Fortunately, you don't need to create a separate scorecard just for ramping employees.
Keep New Hires in the Same Role Group
In most cases, Ambition recommends adding new SDRs to your existing scorecard role group rather than creating a dedicated "Ramping SDR" scorecard.
This allows new hires to participate in the same dashboards, competitions, and reporting as the rest of the team while giving managers a consistent view of performance across the organization.
The difference comes from the targets—not the scorecard itself.
Use Custom Targets During Ramp
Ambition allows you to set custom Activity and Objective Score targets for individual users while they ramp.
For most organizations, a three-month ramp period is a good starting point, though you can make custom targets last as long as your onboarding program requires. Whether your ramp is 30 days, one quarter, or longer, targets can be updated at any time as reps progress toward full productivity.
Once the rep is fully ramped, simply transition them to the standard targets used by the rest of the role group.
Upload Targets Manually or in Bulk
If you're onboarding a single rep, it's easy to add custom targets manually.
Hiring a larger class? You can also upload custom targets via CSV, making it easy to assign multiple metrics for multiple users across weeks, months, or quarters in a single upload. This approach can save significant time for RevOps teams managing frequent onboarding cycles.

With custom targets, you can give new SDRs realistic goals while keeping them engaged with the rest of the team—a simple approach that scales much better than maintaining separate scorecards for every stage of ramp.
