Walk Into Your Next 1:1 Ready: A Rep's Guide to Coaching in Ambition

Your manager has set up coaching in Ambition, and your 1:1s, check-ins, and action items now live there. A lot of that work happens on your manager's side, but the time you put in before and after each 1:1 makes a big difference in how useful it is.
This guide walks through coaching from the employee side of the table: where to find your coaching, how to prepare, and how to follow through so each conversation builds on the last.
Step 1: Learn the language of your coaching
Before you open anything, it helps to know what you're looking at. Ambition organizes coaching into four kinds of touchpoints:
- Session. A single 1:1 or group touchpoint. It can stand alone or be part of recurring coaching.
- Program. A recurring 1:1 or group touchpoint, like your weekly 1:1 with your manager.
- Managed Program. A recurring touchpoint set up at the organization level and run by your manager through 1:1s.
- Cadence. A situational coaching initiative with steps and a defined start and end date, like a ramp plan or a skill-building push.
You don't need to memorize these. Just know that whatever your manager has set up, it shows up in the same place for you.
Step 2: Find your Coaching tab
Your personal dashboard is your home base in Ambition, and if you're part of coaching, that's where you'll find it. From your homepage, access your Coaching tab. Or from your lefthand navigation, go to the Coach tab.
Everything coaching-related lives here. From either place, you can:
- Respond to open session and action plan agenda items
- View past sessions, action plans, and notes
- View coaching analytics
- View open and past asks
- View open action items
Tip: If there's a view you come back to often, like Coaching History, add it to your favorites so it's one click away.
Step 3: Answer your prompts before the meeting
This is the step that changes how your 1:1 feels. With an upcoming session, you'll see open agenda items in your Coaching tab. Answer these ahead of time.
Your answers become part of the agenda, so your manager walks in already knowing what's on your mind, where you're stuck, and what you want to talk about. With the logistics handled ahead of time, there's more room in the meeting for real conversation and connection.
Step 4: Prep with the Ambition Agent
Before the meeting, use the Ambition Agent to get ready. It draws on your full coaching context, including past check-ins, action items, notes, and performance data, to fill in the gaps, analyze how you're trending, and help you decide what to bring to the conversation
On the other side of the table, your manager can use Ambition Skills to generate a coaching pre-read automatically. That means less prep time for both of you and more time for a focused conversation.
Step 5: Show up and have the real conversation
With your prompts answered and the pre-read ready, the 1:1 can focus on what matters: your metrics, your pipeline, and what you'll do next. You and your manager are working from the same agenda and the same numbers. Nobody has to remember what was said last time, because it's all recorded.
Step 6: Follow through on your action items
The meeting ends, but the coaching doesn't. Any action items that come out of the conversation show up as open action items in your Coaching tab. Work through them, and when your next 1:1 comes around, you'll both see what got done.
Over time, your history of sessions, action plans, and notes becomes a running record of your growth. You can look back at what you worked on three months ago and see how far you've come.
Step 7: Choose which coaching emails you get
Ambition can email you about coaching activity, like new sessions, action items, and action plans. To choose which ones you get:
- On your dashboard, click Edit Profile.
- Open the Notifications tab.
- Scroll to Coaching and use the Off/On toggle.
Keep in mind that emails from workflows your manager or admin set up can't be turned off. Only emails Ambition sends automatically can. Changes take effect at the next scheduled send.
Why it matters
Coaching rarely shows up in the revenue number right away. Revenue is a lagging indicator: by the time the forecast shows a problem, the behaviors behind it have been going on for weeks. The signals that come earlier are your activities, behaviors, and performance patterns. Coaching shapes those signals, and Ambition tracks them.
So when you answer your check-ins, follow through on your action items, and show up prepared, you're doing more than getting through a meeting. You're making your progress visible, and giving yourself and your manager a clear picture of what's working.
